If you trailer your boat versus keeping it in a boathouse or marina, here are a few important safety pointers to remember before you hit the road!
• Avoid trailering with the cover on your boat.
• Check tire pressure and condition.
• When you’re ready to trailer, carefully back your vehicle to the boat trailer and directly align the hitch and the ball.
• Connect coupler to ball, ensuring the latch is under the ball, not on top of it.
• Securely bolt/close the latch and insert safety pin.
• Always connect and cross safety chains beneath the ball.
• Connect wiring for lights.
• If your trailer has brakes, attach the safety cable to your tow vehicle.
• Crank up tongue jack.
• Make sure the winch is tight and locked.
• Check tie down straps.
• Always plug in and double check trailer lights prior to departure to ensure they are properly working.
